Land Of Hope & Dreams (May 20th-26th)

Posted in Springsteen Lyric of the Week on May 20, 2008 by The Duke

“Grab your ticket and your suitcase, thunder’s rolling down the tracks.  You don’t know where you’re goin’, but you know you won’t be back”.

…always one of the final songs played during the Reunion and Rising tours…i thought it was a fitting lyric with the Penguins on the verge of a Stanley Cup title…it truly would be a Land Of Hope & Dreams if they take out the Wings!!…

Live In New York City (2CD)

Out In the Street (May 13th-19th)

Posted in Springsteen Lyric of the Week on May 14, 2008 by The Duke

“When that whistle blows, girl, I’m down the street.  I’m home, I’m out of my work clothes.  When I’m out in the street, I walk the way I wanna walk.  When I’m out in the street, I talk the way I wanna talk”.

…you may remember Adam Sandler re-creating this song in the movie “Reign Over Me”, about a guy who lost his family in the 9-11 terror attacks…his character was obsessed with The River album…saw this live during my first ever Springsteen show back in 2000 at the ACC…

The River cover

State Trooper (May 6th-12th)

Posted in Springsteen Lyric of the Week on May 6, 2008 by The Duke

“Maybe you got a kid, maybe you got a pretty wife, the only thing that I got’s been both’rin’ me my whole life.  Mister state trooper, please don’t stop me, please don’t stop me, please don’t stop me”.

…tells the tale of a man on the run from the law…saw him perform it solo at the ACC during the Devils & Dust tour…he also had Canada’s Arcade Fire help him with the tune back in October in Ottawa during the first leg of the Magic Tour…

Nebraska cover

My City Of Ruins (April 29th-May 5th)

Posted in Springsteen Lyric of the Week on April 29, 2008 by The Duke

“There’s a blood red circle on the cold dark ground, and the rain is falling down.  The church doors blown open I can hear the organ’s song, but the congregation’s gone.  My city of ruins”

…this song was written pre-911, however Springsteen released it on The Rising album and the song is seriously an anthem for New York if you listen closely…he sang this tune to open the telethon that was aired on all major U.S. networks several days after the attack…this is a top ten Bruce song for myself…

The Rising

Long Time Comin’ (April 22nd-28th)

Posted in Springsteen Lyric of the Week on April 22, 2008 by The Duke

“Well there’s just a spark of a campfire left burnin’, two kids in a sleeping bag beside.  Reach ‘neath your shirt, put my hands across your belly and feel another one kickin’ inside, and I ain’t gonna fuck it up this time.”

…when he played this Devils and Dust tune at the ACC in TO back in 2005, he dedicated this song to all the moms and dads in attendance…the line where he says “fuck” got a huge cheer!!…

Incident On 57th Street (April 15th-21st)

Posted in Springsteen Lyric of the Week on April 15, 2008 by The Duke

“Spanish Johnny drove in from the underworld last night.  With bruised arms and broken rhythm in a beat-up old Buick, but dressed just like dynamite”.

…one of the Boss’s most famous epics off his second album…saw this performed live in TO last October and it was quite emotional in its story-telling…

The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle

Badlands (April 8th-14th)

Posted in Springsteen Lyric of the Week on April 8, 2008 by The Duke

“Poor man wanna be rich, rich man wanna be king, and a king ain’t satisfied till he rules everything”.

…if you have ever seen Bruce live, this is one of the standards that gets the crowd going…

Glory Days (April 1st-7th)

Posted in Springsteen Lyric of the Week on April 1, 2008 by The Duke

“Think I’m going down to the well tonight, and I’m going to drink till I get my fill”.

…a great line from my favourite Springsteen song (yes I grew up on the Born In the U.S.A album!!)…
